FAQ
How long is the death ban?
24 hours.
Can I starve to death?
Yes and many of you will. Not only is the server difficulty set to hard but we also run a plug-in that increases the rate at which your hunger grows. While this may seem to be a disadvantage for players just joining the map, it creates a gameplay balance for more settled players. On average, 19% of players starve to death when they first join. When you spawn in for the first time, finding food should be your #1 priority. Although “Don’t trust anyone” is a common guideline for many hardcore servers, asking other players for food may mean the difference between life and death.
Does this server have commands like /sethome? Or a teleport to spawn?
No. Teleporting of any kind is not allowed.
What client mods am I allowed?
Any mods or texture packs that give you an unfair advantage over other players are disallowed. This includes x-ray and wireframe in either client modification or texture pack form. If we suspect you of using one of these, you will be banned.
Seriously? I can’t say “wtf” and “lmfao”?
You can say them but I will ban you if you do. If you’re mad because a creeper blew up your house, yell out loud in the comfort of your room but don’t type it into the chat window.
What is the size of the map?
Our current map has a 8000 chunk radius. Larger maps are planned as our player base grows. If you attempt to move beyond the border of the map, you’ll be knocked back.
What are the spawn coordinates?
There is no central spawn. Players are given a random spawn point on the map on first join. If you die, when you return, you will be given a new spawn point.
How often is the map reset?
It depends on how often Mojang pushes out major releases. In the past, we’ve updated the map every three months or so. Now that the game is in a more stable state, it will occur less often.
Is griefing allowed?
Yes but it is strongly discouraged. Raiding player’s bases and pillaging the local Testificate villages is fine but please don’t outright destroy another player’s base by covering it in lava or having a TNT party. If there are repeated reports of outright base destruction in the future, I may change this rule or even move to a whitelist only server.
What is the Red Dot?
The Red Dot is a group of players who have decided to help new players by providing emergency supplies like food and tools. You may also occasionally stumble across Red Dot buildings on the map that can be used for temporary shelter. There is usually a donation chest located in each. If you have additional supplies that may help a wayward traveler, please consider donating. Anyone can join this decentralized group.
What is CombatTag?
Combat Tag is a plugin we run designed to prevent people logging off during combat to keep themselves from dying. If a player hits you and you log off within 3 seconds of the last hit, a clone NPC of you will appear and stand at your log off point for 10 seconds. In those 10 seconds the player who was fighting them has the opportunity to damage the NPC, any damage done to the NPC will be moved to your character upon login, possibly killing them. If the NPC is killed in that time it will drop the items that you were carrying and allow the killer to loot and move on.
Is there a voice chat or IRC room for this server?
No.
Who are the Admins? What can they do?
The owner/admin is Sanquhar. When I play, I play de-op’d with no special privileges other than not adhering to the deathban. You can kill me just like a normal player, although frankly, my loot isn’t going to be all that great. As a father with 2 kids and a number of other time-consuming interests outside of Minecraft, I don’t play as often as I like. I’m usually found running around in leather armor and stone tools because I can’t be bothered to spend time mining for diamond. My home is always above ground and highly visible. If you find my home, you’re welcome to take anything you need from the chests in my home.
Who are the moderators? What can they do?
At this time, we have one moderator, tjf5. She is responsible for monitoring chat and addressing any server performance issues.
An admin killed me! That’s not fair!
Admins and mods play deop’d with no special privileges. See you when your deathban resets.
I see there is a PayPal donation button on the website. Are there any benefits to donating?
Your donation helps offset our hosting costs and you get to play on a great server. Any money collected over and above the hosting costs are used to purchase Minecraft related items from places like JINX that are used as prizes for various contests on the server throughout the year.
I was awarded XP by the admin. Why?
Probably because you did something awesome. Spend it wisely!
